Episode Eight: Electricity Theft and Accountability – Part II

admin January 12, 2020

Background

Synopsis:

Electricity theft defines the practice of evasion and/or non-accurate payment for consumed electricity. It can be in the form of fraud (meter tampering), stealing (illegal connections), billing irregularities, and unpaid bills.
This practice has been prevalent from the pre-privatization era where consumers felt entitled to electricity on the assumption that it is a public and social service. About ₦21bn is estimated to be lost to theft annually.

Speaker: Mr Chibueze Ekeh, Managing Consultant, Energy Market and Regulatory Consultants (EMRC)
